1. reacting benzaldehyde with trifluoromethane anhydride to obtain 3-(trifluoromethyl) benzoic acid
2.3-(trifluoromethyl) benzoic acid is reacted with sodium sulfite to obtain 3-chloro-(trifluoromethyl) benzoic acid
3. reacting 3-chloro-(trifluoromethyl) benzoic acid with hydrochloric acid to obtain 2-chloro-4-(trifluoromethyl) benzoic acid
4. reduce 2-chloro-4-(trifluoromethyl) benzoic acid to give 2-Chloro-4-(trifluoromethyl)benzyl alcohol
